Van Helsing is a 2004 American action horror film directed by Stephen Sommers and written by Neil LaBute. It stars Hugh Jackman as vigilante monster hunter Van Helsing, and Kate Beckinsale as Anna Valerious. The eponymous character was inspired by the Dutch vampire hunter Abraham Van Helsing from Bram Stoker’s novel “Dracula” (1897). The film also stars Richard Roxburgh, David Wenham and Shuler Hensley.
The movie begins in Transylvania in 1885, where Count Dracula (Roxburgh) travels from his castle to the Borgo Pass to send out his three female vampires to find new victims. One of the vampires, Anna Valerious, is sent to England to seduce the pure-hearted young Mina Harker (Beckinsale) and turn her into a vampire.
