Ubuntu
Ubuntu 14.04 is a long-term support release of the popular Linux operating system, released
in April 2014 and supported until April 2019. It includes numerous updates to the Ubuntu core
packages, as well as updated versions of many popular open source applications such as Firefox and
LibreOffice. Additionally, it comes with an improved version of Unity desktop environment which has
been designed for ease of use on desktops, laptops and netbooks alike.
1. Open the Start Menu and search for “Turn Windows features on or off”. 2. Check the box next to
“Windows Subsystem for Linux” and click OK to install it. 3. Reboot your computer when prompted
to complete the installation process. 4. After restarting, open the Microsoft Store from the Start
menu and search for Ubuntu 1804 LTS (or whichever version you prefer). 5. Click Get, then Install
on the app page in order to download and install it onto your system. 6. Once installed, launch
Ubuntu from its shortcut in your start menu or desktop and enter a username/password of your
choice upon first use – this will be used each time you launch it afterwards as well! 7. Finally, run
‘sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade’ in order to ensure that all packages are up-to-date
before using them!
