The Great Gatsby is a romantic novel written by American author F. Scott Fitzgerald. The story of a man who believes his lost romantic relationship can be regained by exhibiting his newly created wealth and power, it is widely considered to be Fitzgerald’s magnum opus. The main character Jay Gatsby, is a former athlete who built an empire out of bootlegging, with the help of Meyer Wolfsheim.
The novel was published in 1925 and the setting takes place in New York during the 1920s. Many people consider this novel to be a reflection about what happened during The Great Depression, when people tried to regain the weal like Gatsby did. The novel itself gives us an insight on how things were during that time from a first person perspective. It also shows how far some people would go for their dreams and that sometimes you need to sacrifice something in order to reach your goals or have what you want.
