Tales of the Arabian Nights is a platform action game that was first published in 1984. It was made by Interceptor Software, who also produced a multi-disk version of the game that was published by Teque London LTD. The action game was available on Commodore 64, Amstrad CPC, BBC Micro and Electron, and ZX Spectrum.

After a number of years in obscurity, it has been released into the public domain. It can be downloaded directly from here (for MS-DOS) or here (for Windows).

The most famous example of mass-market video game piracy happened in the mid-1980s, when a cracker known as The Grey Wizard released a modified version of the popular Commodore 64 game The Tales of the Arabian Nights. (The crack was called an “interceptor”, hence the company’s name.) This cracked version made it possible to play through the whole game without paying for it—and once people got their hands on it, they started copying and spreading it as far as they could.
