SUMMER CHALLENGE
The games: Summer Challenge is a worthy sequel to MindSpan/Accolades classic Winter Challenge, this time based on Summer Olympics games. Similar to its predecessor, Summer Challenge lets you compete in a number of Olympic events and test your skills at several different sports. You’ll be able to choose from among fifteen events, including the 100-meter dash, skeet shooting, and rhythmic gymnastics. Unfortunately for gamers who liked playing as the athletes in Winter Challenge (e.g., your character was a downhill skier), there’s no choice of player—you are an anonymous figure who competes against other anonymous figures.
The game consists of three types of challenges: Quick Play lets you select an event and play it solo or against the computer; Tournament lets you compete for medals against four computer opponents; and Time Attack pits you against the clock as you take on all fifteen events (this challenge can be played by one or two players).
The controls are easy to pick up—you have a jump button, a block button (useful when you’re wrestling with an opponent), and a fire button that shoots your gun or swings your racket or whatever. You can also tap buttons twice to double-jump or perform other moves. The graphics are colorful and attractive
Summer Challenge is a worthy sequel to MindSpan/Accolades classic Winter Challenge, this time based on Summer Olympics games. Similar to its predecessor, Summer Challenge lets you compete in six events: 100 meter sprint (swimming), 100 meter hurdles (track and field), 400 meter relay (track and field), diving, high jump, and javelin. You can choose to play any one of the three difficulty levels: amateur, pro, and master. The amateur level is for those who want a relaxed pace in which they can enjoy the scenery and take on the challenge at their own leisure. The pro level is for those who want to get serious about their game. The last level is for experts only who want the fastest times in history.
What’s new in this version are the achievements. For example, you can complete a race by defeating all opponents or finish a race with no penalties. In addition, if you get tired of competing against computer-controlled opponents, you can also race your friends on two different multiplayer modes: summer challenge mode allows you to compete on track and field events while inflatable mode lets you enjoy beach volleyball instead.
