Strider (1990, Capcom) is a great PC game that takes the best elements of the arcade classic and expands on them. It’s still got the same futuristic ninja combat and anachronistic weapons, but it adds lots of surprises. For example, there are enemies with ranged weapons like spears and axes you have to dodge, as well as more enemies in general.

There are also more varied environments and more opportunities to explore. The graphics are less detailed than in the arcade version, but the PC game has a lot of added music tracks, which makes up for it. If you’re looking for a fun action game with some strategy involved, Strider is one of the best options.

STRIDER is a side-scrolling action game where you control the nimble ninja Hiryu on his quest to defeat the evil Grandmaster Meio and save the world from invasion. Anachronistic weapons, enemies, and settings only add to the appeal of this classic: it’s like you’re playing a Japanese anime! Here are some of the highlights from this PC conversion of the arcade hit: player 2 controller support:

The ability to play with a co-op buddy is one of the best features in any game. In multiplayer mode, each player can choose from two characters: Hiryu or his cyborg counterpart, Strom. They both have different attributes that add to the fun—Hiryu’s speed and agility make him better at dodging attacks, while Strom’s heavier armor makes him more resilient. It’s fun to try them both out, and they both have their own special attacks that are equally useful while soloing or working cooperatively with your partner.
