Section 8

Section 8 is a movie about three people who, at first glance, don’t have much in common: a young boy whose father has been killed by a local gangster; two cops who are just on the verge of being suspended for their behavior; and an FBI agent with questionable motivations. The boy, the cops, and the agent soon find themselves on the same side when the gangster returns to finish off the son—except that now, the cops are on his side, too.

It’s a good movie overall—it starts out funny and keeps you interested for most of its run time. It’s not quite as funny as it could be at times, but it still has some great moments. The cast is amazing—John Leguizamo was perfect as the cop who was just about to retire, and Michael Pena is hilarious as one of his partners. Ice Cube and Dennis Haysbert are convincing as a pair of law enforcement officers who aren’t sure whether they can keep up their integrity any longer. And David Oyelewo is great as the little boy who wants nothing more than to see his father again. It’s really an ensemble cast with no weak links.

The movie itself

Section Eight is a tense, character-driven drama with an exceptional cast. A couple of corrupt cops in the midst of a sting operation find themselves on the run with a witness who was not supposed to have been there, and must decide what to do with him while dealing with their own personal struggles and issues.
