F40 PURSUIT SIMULATOR
One-line Summary: A major disappointment in the history of the F40 series. The Good: The premise is sound; you are on the run from the cops and have to try to avoid them if possible. The Bad: The controls are somewhere between awful and barely functional, even by 1987 standards.
The Verdict: Avoid at all costs, if you’re looking for a racing game this is not it.
It’s a shame that the F40 Pursuit Simulator is so terrible because, as the name suggests, it has an excellent premise for a game. You play an F40 driver who was transporting a car across town when you get caught speeding. Now you’re on the run from the cops, trying to outmaneuver them while trying to get to your destination within the time limit or face getting busted or killed (this means that there’s no excuse for running into things). There is one gameplay mode: pick a city and race around it trying to get to your destination before time runs out while avoiding the police choppers and ground units.”
One-line Summary: A major disappointment in the history of the series. The Good: The premise is sound; you are on the run from police and need to evade them while driving a Ferrari or Lamborghini (the two cars available) through multiple cities. The Bad: The cars handle like they are on roller skates, making it hard to control, let alone win a race. The graphics were not advanced enough to match the quality of other games around that time period, such as Need for Speed III. Even when you’re driving at top speed, the cars lack any sense of “oomph”. There are only 3 tracks and no track editor, so there is little reason to go back to the game after finishing it once. The Bottom Line: Unless you are a super F40 fan, you will probably be disappointed by this game.
