EMERGENCY: FIGHTERS FOR LIFE
Emergency: Fighters for Life is a unique and fun “light” strategy game from TopWare that got far too little shelf life than it deserved. It is a real-time strategy game (RTS) that is very different from the traditional resource-gathering, build-and-destroy games like Command & Conquer or Warcraft. In the game, you play as one of three factions: the military, the terrorists or the civilians. Each faction has its own goals and resources, and each faction has to use those resources against its enemies to achieve victory.
What makes Emergency: Fighters for Life so great is that it offers a new kind of challenge in an RTS—rather than defeating your enemy by attacking their base or defeating their army, in this game you must keep your people alive while also trying to get your enemies to kill each other. This is done through a combination of political maneuvering (such as trying to convince one faction that another is responsible for an attack) and physical interaction with the environment (such as stealing weapons).
The different settings are also nice touches—you have everything from peaceful settlements on islands to the streets of New York City (complete with a hot dog vendor). The added bonus of being able to play any character in multiplayer mode gives some replayability
Emergency: Fighters for Life (or E.F.F.L.) is a real-time strategy game that is far different from the RTS games people usually think of when the genre comes up. It was developed by TopWare and released in 2009; it’s now nearly impossible to find a used copy anywhere, and the price on Amazon and eBay has skyrocketed to over $100 . This game deserves another chance to be enjoyed by new players, not only for its interesting setting but also for its unique gameplay!
