Lila is a lonely high school teacher who just wants a fresh start, and finds it with Jason, her troubled student who falls for her.

At first, she believes she’s helping him to become a better student, but soon she’s unwittingly falling in love with him and struggling with the implications of her relationship while trying not to lose her job.

Lila and Jason are both damaged people trying to survive their present circumstances, and the film sees them embarking on a doomed love affair that may be the only thing capable of saving them.

Co-written by Lena Dunham (Girls), Lila & Eve is an unconventional love story that starts when Lila (Julianne Moore) catches Jason (Javier Bardem) having sex in the school bathroom with his girlfriend Sarah (Mackenzie Davis). She gives him detention, but this doesn’t stop their relationship from growing as Jason pursues her romantically.

Jason helps Lila see beyond her mundane existence and appreciate life again through his unique perspective on art, music and love that is both dark and poetic. While Lila starts to open up to new experiences with Jason, she also meets Eve (Naomi Watts), a single mother in need of help after she witnesses one of her students being hit by a car. The three form an unlikely bond as they try to navigate their personal problems while dealing with the stigma of helping someone perceived as a drug addict.
