Irish folklore is full of colorful beetlemen—known as the Clurichaun, they’re particularly well known for their fondness of drink. The concept has been carried forward into modern popular culture, and there’s no better example than in “Beetle Bug”, a video game released by the video game company Game-a-holics. In this version of the Irish Beetle, players guide the little guy through a variety of mini-games that range from a simple maze to a complicated spelling challenge. “Beetle Bug” takes advantage of a relatively new innovation in gaming known as “video gaming”. This is an interactive form of entertainment that is produced by storing images and sounds on computers and other electronic devices. These games can be played on televisions, computer screens, hand-held devices like cell phones, or even specialized arcade machines that are usually found in public places like restaurants or bars. Although video games have been around for decades (the first was released in 1968), they have only recently become mainstream enough to be considered by many people to be an essential part of their entertainment options.
