Published in 1999 by Hasbro Interactive, Inc., Axis & Allies: Iron Blitz was an above-average title that continued the series’ tradition of complex war games. The game’s main feature is the ability to play all eight major powers–America, Britain, Germany, Russia and Japan–in full campaign mode. Campaign mode allows players to play against computer-controlled opponents throughout the duration of World War II, culminating in a final showdown between the Allied and Axis powers.

However, the AI doesn’t always play a credible opponent; even on the hardest difficulty level, it can be nearly impossible to lose when you’re playing as Germany. This is because Germany starts off with most of Europe under its control, giving it access to large amounts of raw materials and research opportunities. On top of this, it gets a huge chunk of cash at the start of every turn; then there are its special units like the Panzer Elite, which boasts high attack values but low defense values. While playing against AI opponents isn’t much fun in itself because they rarely put up much of a fight after their first defeat, there are plenty of multiplayer options available in this game.
