Freddy Krueger’s house isn’t exactly a place you’d want to be. With walls that bleed, traps and tricks around every corner, and of course, the murderous Freddy himself, it’s practically impossible to make it through the treacherous maze of horrors to rescue your friends. That is, unless you have this OFFICIAL A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET game!

A Nightmare on Elm Street (NES) is an action game based on the movie of the same name. Rather than being a simple platformer, it is more of a hybrid between a platformer and a rail shooter. In this game, you take control of Freddy Krueger and must find your way into the dreams of your victims in order to kill them there and prevent them from waking up. If they do wake up, their souls will belong to you.

The gameplay can be divided into two modes: running around in Freddy’s house trying to find your targets, and fighting them in their dreams.

The first mode can be challenging because you are restricted to moving left, right, or jumping (which moves you up one section), but this makes it easy to avoid enemies who run back and forth across the screen. You start out with a limited amount of energy that depletes when you take damage or fall down holes.

If you run out of energy while outside of an enemy’s house, you lose a life. However, if you run out of energy while inside one of their houses, Freddy will drag that victim into his own dream for another chance at killing him/her. The enemies in each house will chase after you if they see you and
