ABC MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL

With football season approaching, I wanted to share with my readers some of my favorite football games from the past. You’ve probably heard of quite a few of these, but hopefully you’ll still find some fun new titles to try.

First up is ABC Monday Night Football for the NES. This is a fun action-oriented football game from Data East that sports excellent VGA graphics, sounds (although they wont work in most new computers), and good controls. The gameplay is very simple – you control one player on offense and one player on defense as you attempt to bring the ball into the end zone while stopping your opponent from doing the same.

Although, this simplicity can be a little frustrating at times because it feels like your players are very slow at times. The graphics are great for an NES game as players have multiple frames of animation when passing or tackling and there are multiple types of plays (including passing, running, and kicking). One of my favorite things about this game is the crowd noise – it really gets loud during big plays and makes the game more exciting! Overall, this is a great football game with good graphics and sound that all NES fans should play! Gameplay: 8/10 Graphics: 9/10 Sound: 8/10 Total: 8/10

ABC Monday Night Football is a fun football game that plays very similarly to the Tecmo Bowl series of games. The graphics are very good, with lots of flashing lights and fireworks. There’s a nice crowd noise soundtrack that plays in the background, much like the one in Tecmo Bowl. The sound effects are also well done, although they may not work on modern computers. The controls are responsive and easy to use; you’ll be able to find a way to play it that works for you regardless of your skill level.

One significant problem with this game is that it doesn’t support VGA graphics when played in DOSBox; you have to run it in an older version of DOS or on an actual DOS computer (which can be problematic for people who don’t have access to those options). However, if you’re willing to go through the trouble of setting up an emulator and getting this game set up properly, it’s a lot of fun.
