Tennis games can add a new dimension of fun to your typical sports sims. They’re surprisingly good at making you feel like you’re on the court and dictating how the game unfolds, even with all its shortcomings. If you’ve exhausted the quality titles out there (Top Spin, Virtua Tennis), then you might want to take a look at Advantage Tennis. It’s not the best tennis game out there, but it has a few tricks up its sleeve that set it apart from its competitors in a good way.
You’ve probably played tennis games before, and so you know what to expect in that regard. But Advantage Tennis has some features that are a cut above the rest. The graphics are good enough for me to be able to tell the difference between some of the players (though I’m not sure if it’s supposed to be Venus versus Serena Williams, or if that just happened by accident). The control is responsive and easy to use—I found myself breezing through a lot of matches, which was both fun and a little frustrating. But if I can’t feel challenged, then why bother playing?
