ASCII Sector is a game with a lot of potential that, unfortunately, is undermined by its poor execution. It has the bones of a fun game: being able to play as a character, choose missions to go on, customize your ship and weapons and learn new technologies. The graphics are decent and the sound effects are simple but fitting. However, it falls short in many areas and leaves you wanting more.
The story is weak, even for an rpg. There’s no real motivation for me to keep playing since I don’t really know why I’m doing any of this. There’s no dialogue or interaction between characters; it’s all very one dimensional. To top it off, there are spelling errors everywhere!
Some of the controls aren’t intuitive and could be better explained. For instance, I don’t know how to save my game (there’s no “save” option in the menu) so I have to find some obscure website in order to figure out what I’m doing wrong!
ASCII Sector is a game about the life of an ordinary pilot. The player has to complete different missions, earn a living and manage his time between work and family.
