Zoey is a normal, everyday girl. She has friends, she goes to school, she’s even got a boyfriend. But when she moves to a small town in Maine with her parents and younger brother, Zoey soon discovers that her new town is teeming with secrets and paranormal phenomena and one particularly devious spirit.

As a newly transplanted Chicagoan and fresh-faced high schooler, Zoey Redbird thinks she’s left her paranormal problems behind. But as her new friends at Sheol I begin to reveal their true nature, Zoey finds that being a Guardian is a full-time job with no benefits and crappy pay. Plus, the town is teeming with secrets and paranormal phenomena, including one particularly devious spirit who threatens to reveal the Guardians’ existence to the rest of the school.

Zoey stood near the bottom of the stone steps leading up to Sheol Community School. Her new home for the next year, it was one of those old buildings that looked like it could have been an elementary school when it was built in 1828. It had weathered gray stone walls, tall windows with white trim around them, and an enormous front door. The only thing hinting at its time as a high school was the row of lockers near the entrance.
