ALIEN RIVER
Alien River was released in 2017. It’s a strategy game, set in a sci-fi / futuristic and turn-based themes.
First, some context. I’m a big fan of strategy games (and sci-fi and futuristic things). I picked up Alien River on a lark after finding it on some discount table at my local game store. The artwork on the box was intriguing, and I figured Alien River would be a good way to pass an hour or two. While I had already beaten Civilization IV, this was only the second Civilization-like video game I had played in my life (the first being Alpha Centauri).
The gameplay is pretty standard for a turn-based strategy game. You have to guide your little people from their home planet to the alien river—a river that provides limitless power to whoever controls it. Every time you complete a turn, your opponent has a chance to make one of their people move or attack yours. The challenge comes from the fact that there are so many different ways for your opponent to stop you from reaching the river, including building tesla coils around your people when they’re walking towards the river and attacking with lasers when they move towards it. There’s also some nice incentive to get there faster: every unit you leave floating around on space tiles near the river will lower its value. If someone else reaches it before you do, they’ll gain points equal
Alien River was a sci-fi strategy game that came out in 2017 and was available on many operating systems, including DOS. In this game you assume the role of a spaceship pilot navigating the Alien River, which is a river containing strange water creatures and even stranger floral. You’ll have to blow up weird water plants and avoid an array of aquatic organisms like octopi, piranhas, jellyfish, and squids. Good luck!
