When five friends vacation at a remote lake house, they are unaware that planet Earth is under an alien invasion and mass-abduction. Written and directed by Andrew Traucki, this sci-fi thriller is an adaptation of the novel by the same name. The movie stars Taylor Schilling (Orange Is the New Black), Kate Bosworth (The Longest Ride), and Lake Bell (No Escape) as college friends who must fight for their lives when a UFO lands on the lake outside their vacation home.

James Ponsoldt directed one of my favorite movies from the past few years, The Spectacular Now, but unfortunately I found this film to be just okay. It’s not bad—the premise is great, and it has plenty of twists—but I was hoping for something much better. The movie has a lot of potential, but it doesn’t execute its interesting concepts as well as it could have. The cast is amazing and they all do solid work, but overall I didn’t feel very connected to any of them; they were all pretty flat characters whose actions seemed driven more by plot than personal motivation. There are a lot of moments where I wanted there to be more emotion behind their decisions or felt like some key exposition should have been left on the

The movie The Recall, starring Colin Farrell and Kate Beckinsale, is an action-packed movie with an interesting plot. The recall is about a group of friends who rent a house together away from the city. In this cabin, they do what most people would do on vacation: water skiing, swimming, and drinking. Little do they know that the whole world is being taken over by aliens. This invasion happens while they are in the middle of their vacation.
